Deerns projects nominated for international BREEAM Awards

Eight Dutch projects have been nominated for the international BREEAM Awards, the Oscars for sustainable buildings. The awards will be presented during the BREEAM Awards gala in London on 7 March 2017. The Deerns design for 'De Reehorst', the head office of the Triodos Bank, has been nominated for the category 'Offices (new). The design achieved a BREEAM-NL Outstanding certificate with a rare high score of 94%. The category 'Mixed Use Buildings' includes the new build for Royal Agio Cigars, which is on the shortlist with the highest possible score for a bespoke project with an industrial function.

Annemarie van Doorn, Managing Director of the Dutch Green Building Council, administrator of the BREEAM-NL label about the eight nominations: 'This is proof that the Dutch construction and real estate sector can set leading and innovative, sustainable examples. We can be proud of that. I heartily congratulate all those involved in these projects with their nomination. These nominations obviously entail certain obligations: the sharing of knowledge and experience with the market.'

An expert jury will judge the entries based on a case study and will take into account the BREEAM score, the innovations that have been applied and the scale-up potential. The winners will be announced during the evening of the awards.

The presentation of the International 2016 BREEAM Awards was a great success for the Netherlands. Of the five Dutch nominees, three projects ultimately won an award, including The Edge, which won the highest BREEAM score ever awarded for new buildings. Deerns played a major role in achieving BREEAM certification for The Edge.

In addition to the categories for buildings, the BREEAM Awards has more awards to present. The Assessor of the year, the Assessor organisation and the BREEAM Talent will also be put in the limelight. There is also a public award. The public can vote on the Your BREEAM category.
