Temporary additional departure hall Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Due to the recent strong growth of passengers travelling to countries in the Schengen Area, Schiphol is to have a temporary, additional departure hall. Approximately two million passengers are expected to use this departure hall each year. Construction is to start today and will be completed in time for the May holiday in 2017. Deerns and the architects Benthem Crouwel Naco are involved in the design.

As consulting engineers, Deerns has played a supporting role in assessing the MEP systems concept and has enhanced the design where necessary. Consequently, Deerns has contributed to presenting a well-organised, integrated building and systems design in a very short period of time.

The temporary facility will cover some 3,800 square metres and will be constructed on top of the South Baggage Hall, south of Departure Hall 1. It will have approximately twenty check-in desks, five security lanes, self-service check-in kiosks, toilet facilities and seating areas.

The temporary departure hall will remain in service until the end of 2019. By that time construction of the new pier will be completed, followed in 2023 by completion of the extra terminal south of Schiphol. Additional parking facilities are also to be built and the train and bus stations will be renovated and expanded.
